What To Expect

Individual and Couples Psychotherapy

Individuals who seek help may be unsure about what to expect in psychotherapy, which can make them feel more vulnerable.

Once you contact me and after a brief phone call, in which I will ask what led you to seek help, we may decide to arrange a meeting. My approach to psychotherapy is that we work as a partnership. I typically will begin by asking about the struggles for which you would like help. I will follow your lead. Based on our conversation, we’ll examine aspects of your history, and identify strengths and barriers to moving forward.

Couples: What makes working with couples unique is that although I meet with two individuals, the couple relationship is the focus. I am therefore committed to providing a space in which each partner feels understood and supported to express their reasons for coming as a couple for psychotherapy—your concerns, what you want in your relationship, and your hopes for our work together.
